Free online dating sites have been, for a long number of years now, the most popular and easier way to meet people from all corners of the world. It's funny, though, to see how we long to meet someone from another corner of the world and we fail to see our next door neighbour. But, I have to admit, some people are attracted by the ideea of a blind date, or by the aroma given to a relation by the ideea that one of the partners is from another continent, or by the passion online dating can easily cause, also given by the fact that we alsways believe who knows what misteries might lie behind our long distant partner.

In fact, most of these sites are publicity-sponsored and, personally, this does not disturb me as long as they remain free. I have been for some time a user of some free online dating sites, some of them are really great, also thanks to the fact that most of them offer the possibility for people to meet online, to chat in real time either in public or in private chat rooms.

Unfortunately, one of the problem with free online dating sites is that, because they are free, most of the people using the site might not be really who they say they are. this of course can be avoided by using a webcam during chat, so that each partner can see the other one and be finally assured that the person he/she is chatting with is who he/she says he/she is. Also, another characteristics of free online dating sites is that you cannot be sure whether the other party is seriously looking for a relationship or not, or just looking for fun. In some ways, in my opinion, free online dating sites are at a disadvantage here because when someone is paying for membership, surely is not paying for something he/she is not looking for, and therefore the chances that he/she is looking for a real relationship are greater, in my personal opinion.

Like I mentioned before, some free online dating sites have been around for quite a number of years now (some of them are almost as old as the ideea of internet), and I do not personally believe that the recent recession will have an influence on whether they will remain free or not.
